The contrast between the ancestral figures and a“quick“ smearing aims to make people pondering over civilization decadence.

The Moai of Easter Island, made by Urban Solid, large sculptures that represent an entire civilization are immersed in the contemporary urban context. Smeared like the walls and monuments of our cities, they acquire a new meaning. Thus becoming witnesses of the lack of culture that guides the hand of those who carry out the useless act of vandalism.

Through vandalization, the Moai, symbol of a civilization that has destroyed its ecosystem, is altered in its meanings, disfigured, soiled and made uniform to the new urban context that hosts it. This new urban dimension create a mirror effect: we are able to grasp the destruction, environmental and cultural impoverishment only by observing contexts far from us. We don’t realize the decay that concerns us closely, the one of the reality where we are immersed in.

The “doorway to” installations are volumes generated by the stratification of two-dimensional levels; they are configured as new and colorful shapes in the streets of Brera. The layering of history that generates the present, against the extemporaneousness of a gesture that compromises the past confronts us with the fragility of the future.
